Passenger car sales in Spain grew by more than 21% in December.
The Spanish passenger car market closed 2014 with a total of 855,308 registrations, 18.4% more than in 2013, according to figures provided by the national associations of manufacturers, sellers, and dealers. Furthermore, sales reached 73,400 units in December, 21.4% more than in the same month last year. This marks the 16th consecutive month of growth for the market, driven by the success of the PIVE Plan, according to industry associations.
The retail sales channel closed the year with 483,767 units, a 21.3% increase, while the business channel ended with 216,233 and the rental channel with 155,308. By brand, Volkswagen led the market with 76,958 registrations, followed by Seat with 67,894 and Opel with 66,700. The Renault Mégane was the best-selling model in 2014, with 29,020 transactions, followed by the Citroën C4 with 28,193 and the Seat León with 27,704.
David Barrientos, Director of Communications at ANFAC, stated that "the passenger car market ended the year with its highest annual growth in 15 years. The main protagonist of the year was the PIVE Plan, which has enabled continued growth for 16 months. Consumption in Spain is recovering, and one of the drivers is the PIVE Plan, as car sales are one of the main indicators of the evolution of private consumption.
